The Pequot Times

This community newspaper is an important vehicle for local and national Native news and information.  The Pequot Times was first published in October 1992, and it has covered tribal events and milestones ever since—from the launching of the super-fast passenger ferry Sassacus to the Mashantucket Pequot Child Development Center’s annual graduation ceremonies.  The newspaper is the journal of record for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation; it carries announcements of scholastic achievements, births, marriages, and deaths, as well as major news on and off the reservation.

Since its beginning, the Pequot Times has expanded its coverage and evolved into a lively publication with an ever-growing circulation. It features an editorial page, a section with national stories on Native issues, and a section devoted to tribal employees. The Pequot Times often initiates stories—on topics such as diabetes among Native people and tribal sovereignty issues—and its articles have frequently been reprinted or referenced by other news media.
