FAQs

What is a chaperone?
A chaperone is any adult that visits the Museum for the purpose of supervising students on a field trip: including teachers, parents and camp counselors. Chaperones are expected to stay with their groups at all times during their Museum visit and to wear a Museum-provided chaperone tag.

Will you accept a purchase order (P.O.)?
Yes, a copy of your P.O. must be presented at check-in. Without it your group may be delayed in entering the Museum until you are able to contact your school and have a copy of the P.O. faxed to the Museum. A pay phone is available at the group entrance.

Can we visit the exhibits before our scheduled tour?
Museum policy requires that students have an orientation to the exhibits prior to visiting them. It takes approximately five minutes and will not only let students know what to expect, but what is expected of them throughout their visit.

What happens if we arrive early/late?
Due to popular demand, our tours and programs are scheduled on a timetable to best accommodate all groups. If you arrive early or late every effort will be made to accommodate you; however, the Museum cannot guarantee staff, classroom or lunchroom availability at an unscheduled time. We ask that groups arriving early or late remain flexible regarding start times for tours and lunches.

What should I do if the number of people in my group changes?
Small number changes can be made at check-in. If your group size increases or decreases by five or more people (including chaperones) please inform us prior to arrival. Without notification we cannot guarantee appropriate staffing or lunch space for your entire group.

Is there a gift shop?
Yes, there is a gift shop at the Museum. Chaperones must accompany all students in the shop. Prices start at approximately $2.00 per item.

What should I do if someone in my group requires first aid?
If someone in your group requires medical assistance please report to a security guard, who will contact Emergency Medical Services. While the Museum does not have a nurse’s station on site, emergency services are minutes away.

Are Tours and Education Programs adaptable to different age groups?
Yes. With prior notification, our staff will adapt tours and program guidelines to best suit your group’s age range.
