–Families with children of all ages are invited to experience Kids Week at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center, happening April 16 – 18, 2025 from 10 AM to 4 PM. This three-day event, filled with art making, culture, and fun, offers engaging activities designed to inspire creativity and a deeper appreciation of Pequot traditions.
During Friends & Family Days, young visitors and their families can take part in hands-on activities, where museum members will have exclusive access to in-person programs with provided materials to spark artistic exploration.
Families can also embark on a cultural explorer guide scavenger hunt, leading them through the museum’s current exhibitions and Pequot Village. This interactive experience encourages participants to search for specific items, answer questions, and connect with the traditional lifeways of the Pequot people in a fun and educational way.
Kids Week Features
- Mushooy Burn on the Farmstead (all 3 days) – Experience a traditional burn method used in Indigenous farming.
- Language Bingo (one day) – A fun and interactive way to learn Pequot words and phrases.
- Binary Beading from Wondr Smart Labs (one day) – A unique activity blending traditional beadwork with STEM learning.
- Pinch Pottery Crafts (daily) – Create and decorate your own clay pottery inspired by Pequot artistry.
- Hubbub – Learn and play this traditional Native game.
- Digging 4 Wampum – Discover the significance of wampum in Pequot culture through hands-on excavation fun.
- Scavenger Hunt Fun – Explore the museum and exhibits with an exciting, self-guided adventure.
