The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center is pleased to host its annual Honoring the Veterans Powwow as a tribute to veterans, active-duty service members, and their families, who have courageously served our nation.
Scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2024, the powwow will bring together Native and non-Native Americans in a celebration of unity, culture, and respect. Attendees will be immersed in a day of performances, with over 100 dancers and drummers showcasing traditional music, dance, and storytelling. Held in the Museum’s stunning two-story, glass-encased Gathering Space, the event will offer a beautiful backdrop of the surrounding forests, enhancing this rich cultural experience.
This year’s powwow will feature a special performance by Michelle Thomas, a Navajo Nation artist, singer, songwriter, and motivational speaker. She will perform the National Anthem in the Navajo language, adding a meaningful cultural element to the ceremony.
“Hosting the Veterans Day Powwow is an absolute honor for both our Museum and our community. It’s our way of paying tribute to those who have served our country,” said Joshua Carter, Executive Director of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center. “This event is a celebration of culture and community that brings us all together, and we are proud to provide a space for such an important gathering. We’re also incredibly excited to welcome Michelle Thomas this year, whose special performance will add even more significance to the day.”
Entry to the event is included with Museum admission, allowing guests to explore the Museum’s immersive and educational exhibits in addition to experiencing the annual cultural celebration. Doors open at 10:00 AM, with the Grand Entry scheduled for 1:00 PM.
