It’s Seeqan (Spring)! Come and join us in Mashantucket at the Pequot Museum during the week for Native crafts, family-friendly fun and edu-tainment.

Wednesday April 10

Traditional Hubbub Tournament (Native Game/Language)

Come win it all playing hubbub here at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, a favored traditional game of Pequot people and sister nations.

Learn to play and Tournament facilitated by Public Programs (Museum Educators)

10am Learn to play hubbub & signups
11am Learn to play hubbub & signups
12pm Hubbub Tournament begins (traditional game tournament) on the Farmstead (weather dependent; Rain location: Gathering Space)

Wondr Smart Lab

Modern Hubbub w/ Sphero- S.T.E.A.M. Learning & Fun (Native Game/Coding/Language)
Participants will learn a modern twist to a traditional game on how to play Hubbub using Sphero robots

Arts & Crafts

Bead Crafts & Coloring Sheets
Join us in the Gathering space for native crafts and coloring fun with our Museum Team.

What is it?

Stop by our Archaeology table in the Gathering Space where you can sort through various artifacts to see if you can figure out what it is and what it is used for.

Lyman Allyn Art Museum: Paint Chip Skylines – 1pm-3pm

Join the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in making your own Paint Chip Skyline collage! Learn about different ways artists have represented our regional landscape through art, then make your own colorful skyline using paint chips. This drop-in activity is good or all ages.

 

Thursday April 11

Wetu Book Club Jr. – Reading Circle

Join us outside of the Pequot Museum Gift Shop for a story telling experience where traditional stories written by Native authors of children’s books will be read.

Wondr Smart Lab

Binary Beading – S.T.E.A.M. Learning & Fun (Beading/Coding/Language)
Participants will learn how to translate the binary alphabet using Pequot words to make a bracelet

Penguin Program present by Mystic Aquarium 10:30 – 11:30am Auditorium

Our Penguin Animal Ambassador Programs are a one-of-a-kind outreach program where your students not only meet one of our resident African penguins but also learn from their trainers how we are working every day to save these Endangered Species.

Denison Nature Center: Turtles of Connecticut – 1pm-3pm

Stop by and meet our local turtle species! Discover their incredible adaptations that make these creatures unique and learn important tips to help them thrive in nature!

Turtle Pinch Pot Making

Join us for a fun time to make and shape a small turtle inspired pinch pot or get creative and create your own unique pot.

Mystic Museum of Art: Turtle Mandala – 10am-1pm

Create a dazzling Turtle Mandala Art using a variety of art materials with the guidance of artist educators of Mystic Museum of Art. Mandala making is a fun, creative, meditative, and cultural experience. There is no previous art experience needed! Take home an intricate artwork to use as a tool for mindfulness, relaxation, and concentration, or to just add to your home decor. Ages 7 to adult.

Outdoor Native Games

Red Light, Green Light
S.T.E.A.M. Learning & Fun w/ Wondr Smart Lab Team. Participants will play red light green light using Sphero robots.

Mystic Seaport: Sailors’ Skills and Ropemaking – 10am-3pm

Participants will practice their rope skills and learn how to tie a variety of common knots used on land and at sea, such as a square knot, bowline, and clove hitch.
